00:00SPEAKER: In this video, we will download and install Unreal Engine
00:03We'll go through the process of installing the Epic Games Launcher, setting up your Epic Games account, and installing and running Unreal Engine
00:11So let's get started
00:12The first step is to download and install the Epic Games Launcher
00:16The Launcher is where you download and manage your Unreal Engine versions
00:20It also gives you access to the Epic Games Store, the latest news, sample projects for Unreal Engine, Fab, and other tools such as Twinmotion and RealityCapture
00:30To download the launcher, let's head over to unrealengine.com and click the Download button on the top right corner
00:37This will take us to the download page and start the launcher download
00:41After the download is complete, run the downloaded installer file and install the Epic Games Launcher
00:46Once the installation is complete, let's open the Epic Games Launcher
00:50Here you will be prompted to sign in using an Epic Games account
00:54You can either sign in with an existing account or create a new one
00:57If you already have an account, sign in by using your login credentials, or by using your account on a supported third-party platform
01:04If you don't have an account yet, click the Create Account button at the bottom of the page
01:09After you enter the information required, enable the checkbox next to "Terms of Service and the Epic Games Store End User-License Agreement," and click Continue
01:18It's required to accept the terms of service and license agreement to create an Epic Games account
01:23So to review these terms and policies, click on either of the links next to the checkbox
01:28Your Epic Games account can be used across the Epic Games ecosystem, including Unreal Engine, Epic Games Store, and the Epic Developer Community
01:37Once you're logged in, by default, the Epic Games Launcher Lands on the Unreal Engine section in the left-hand navigation panel and displays the News tab
01:46The navigation panel on the left side can be used to switch between the Epic Games Store, your game library, and Unreal Engine
01:53To download and install the latest version, click Unreal Engine in the navigation panel and go to the Library tab
02:00The Library tab is where you can install Unreal Engine and manage your projects
02:04To install the engine, click the Plus button next to the Engine Version section, which will add a new engine tile
02:11This tile indicates which version of the engine will be installed
02:14You can click the version number and select the version you want to install, but by default, the latest version of Unreal Engine will be selected
02:21Now click the Install button on the tile
02:23To proceed with the installation, you will need to review and accept the terms and license agreement
02:29By default, Unreal Engine will be installed in the default installation location for your operating system
02:35You can change this location by clicking on Browse in the Choose Install Location dialog
02:40You can also customize which Unreal Engine components to install by clicking Options
02:45This opens a new dialog for installation options, where you can choose which components to install based on your development needs
02:52Core components cannot be deselected, but options like Starter Content, Templates and Feature Packs, Engine Source, and various target platform binaries can be included or excluded depending on your needs
03:05So select your desired options and click Apply to confirm your selection
03:09And then click Install to begin the installation process
03:12Once the download has started, you can pause and resume it by using their respective icons, or cancel it entirely by using the X icon in the bottom right corner of the tile
03:23We're going to let it download and run through the installation, though
03:26After the installation is complete, you can run Unreal Engine by clicking Launch on the engine tile
03:31Once you create projects, they will be listed in the My Projects section of the launcher
03:37Each project has an associated Unreal Engine version based on which version the project was opened with last
03:43This means that you can open a project by double clicking on it once you have created one, and it will open with the associated Unreal Engine version if that version is installed
03:52Opening the project with a different version will change the project's associated engine version
03:57The Epic Games Launcher can verify and evaluate existing engine files and plugins for corrupted or missing content
04:05If you click on the dropdown arrow next to the Launch button on an engine tile, you will see Verify
04:11After clicking on it, you can see the progress of the verification by clicking Downloads in the left-hand navigation panel
04:17If any files are found to be missing or corrupted, only these files will be downloaded and installed
04:23If there is an issue that prevents Unreal Engine from launching, you will see a Repair button instead of Launch
04:29When a new version of the engine becomes available, the Epic Games Launcher notifies you in two ways
04:35A notification badge appears on the top right corner of the engine tile, and the Launch button is replaced with an Update button
04:42If your development needs change after installing a version of Unreal Engine, you can modify the components of that version at any time
04:49By using the dropdown next to Launch, you can click Options and modify the components you want to add or remove
04:56Once you're done making your changes, click Apply to confirm your selection
05:00You can find and download content, including plugins, from Fab
05:04Plugins that are currently installed or available to install can be found in the Fab Library section
05:09You can install a plugin by clicking Install to Engine and selecting the Unreal Engine version to install the plugin for, if there is one available
05:17To inspect which plugins are currently installed on an engine version, click Installed Plugins under an engine title
05:23This will display a list of installed plugins which you can remove from the engine
05:28Finally, to uninstall an existing version of Unreal Engine, click the dropdown next to launch on an engine tile and select Remove from the dropdown
05:37This will open the uninstall dialog
05:39And once you confirm your selection, the engine version will be uninstalled from your system
05:44And that's it for this video
05:46We hope that this was helpful in downloading and installing Unreal Engine
05:50Thanks for watching.
