00:01Hey everyone, and thanks for jumping back into the Cryptoverse
00:05Today, we're going to talk about Bitcoin and how it is sitting still just above the May high
00:10If you guys like the content, make sure you subscribe to the channel, give the video a thumbs up, and check out the upcoming ITC Conference
00:19The main conference day will be November 21st in Miami
00:22Let's go ahead and jump in
00:25Bitcoin is currently trading at around 83,000 dollars
00:30And what's interesting is, the May high is right around 82.8 thousand dollars
00:39And if you're just joining, if you're new and you've never watched this channel before, it would probably behoove you to know before watching the video that I was not expecting the move above the May high
00:45So, as much as..
00:50We all have our egos and want to pretend like we're always right
00:56This is one of those times where I was not, and Bitcoin took out the May high
01:02Not only did it take out the May high, but it also closed above the May high
01:08Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that there's never any downside anymore or anything like that, but what it does mean is that the burden of proof is now more on the bears than the bulls
01:23You could have argued for the last nine months that the burden of proof was on the bulls to prove why this rally was any different than all the other rallies, because all the other rallies were simply rallies to lower highs
01:40And if this had been a lower high, again, the burden of proof would..
01:46This time, the bulls have stayed in control
01:52But with it being a higher high and with a weekly close above that high, the burden of proof has shifted
01:57So what's difficult is when you are academically on the wrong side of what actually happens
02:07We have to remind ourselves there is actually a difference between being right and making money
02:14And that's probably something you've heard me say a number of times over the years
02:16I would rather be poor and wrong
02:20Did I say that right? No
02:23I'd rather be rich and wrong than poor and right
02:27Hopefully, I'm not poor and wrong, right? But I'd rather be rich and wrong than poor and right
02:36So, there's actually a big difference between being right and making money
02:41And this is one of those times
02:44Where the DCA strategy has worked fine for those who have DCA'd in the second half of the midterm year, right? Which is what I have said and I've communicated as the correct strategy, in my opinion
02:58Now, if things were to change, then I could always theoretically change those views in the future
03:05But those have been the views
03:08And so, while technically the views I've expressed, as to the nature of this rally, it's extended beyond what I thought, I can at least console myself with the small amount of Bitcoin I was able to get at those lows
03:23And so, I think at this point, what you have to ask yourself is, when you come to a point as an investor where you are wrong about something, how do you navigate that? Because as investors we..
03:39All will face that challenge at some point or another, whether you're facing it now with Bitcoin, whether you faced it with another asset in the past, or you'll face it with an asset in the future
03:50How do you navigate that? And I think that's why it's so critical to have an investing plan, no matter what
03:58Let me give you an example for the S&P 500
04:01I buy low-cost index funds every single month, no matter what, and I've been doing it for years and years and years
04:13Sometimes in the month, I will get a little fancy and try to time it, like if I think a correction is coming, but I have very mixed results with that
04:24Sometimes I try to time it, but normally I just buy at the beginning of the month
04:28But sometimes, if I think a..
04:30Corrections are about to start
04:33I will wait until the end of the month
04:35Sometimes I feel like a genius, and I'm like, "Oh, I'm glad I waited," and other times I wish I hadn't waited
04:42Over the years, what I found myself doing more and more was just buying earlier in the month rather than later, because the gains I made by sometimes being right were offset by missing out on gains when I waited to buy and I was wrong
04:59So I just found it easier not to spend that much time thinking about it
05:03With the S&P 500, you probably notice I don't really talk about it that much on this channel
05:08The reason is that my strategy with the S&P is to just mindlessly dollar-cost average it every month of my life
05:13Right? Like that's what I do
05:19And I recognize as an investor that I will be open to occasional drawdowns in the future
05:25And I talk about those drawdowns with you guys, but I don't ever go out and sell typically based on that
05:29If I sell index funds, it's because I'm selling for another reason, not because I'm that convinced that the market is going to go down
05:40So, with Bitcoin, I think the point that I'm trying to communicate is: what is your strategy? Do you have a strategy? Have you dollar-cost averaged in the second half of the midterm year? Have you not? If Bitcoin were to go up, what would you do? If Bitcoin were to drop back down, what would you do? Would you buy, or would you get caught in the mindset of, oh, it's going to go..
06:02So much lower, and not—I mean, the question is, how do you navigate it from here? And I think a lot of people need to think about that going into the fourth quarter because, on one hand, if Bitcoin, after here, accepts above the May high, and if it continues to accept above it and slowly trends up, I think you should have a plan for what you're going to do rather than just sit around and wish certain things
06:31But on the other hand, if we accept back below the May high, and just when it seems like this thing is going, something happens out of left field, and we're right back below it, I would have a plan for that too
06:45Because what I have noticed before, and I’ve noticed this actually in 2018
06:49and 2022
06:53So, in 2018, I did not think we would have a drop at the end of the year
06:57In 2022, I did think we would have a drop at the end of the year
07:03And the reason I thought we would have a drop in 2022 was simply because I saw that we had a drop in 2018 and because I saw that we had a drop in 2014, right? I based my assessment in 2022 on the fact that it also happened in the last two midterm years
07:20Therefore, okay, there's a good chance it will happen again
07:22And it did
07:26But what I have noticed is that there are times when the Q4 drop plays out, but if you don't pivot, you can miss it, right? And I've said this before as well, and one of the reasons why I've communicated that dollar-cost averaging (DCA) in the second half of the midterm year makes sense
07:45Because imagine you were buying Bitcoin, right? Like throughout the summer at 18K, 19K, 20K
07:52Did it really matter two or three years later if you didn't buy at 15K? But if you didn't buy at 18K and 19K in the summer, did you get spooked during the FTX drop and not buy at all? In which case, if you did not, and then you watch the market go right back up here, you would have been better off simply buying before the FTX crash
08:16And that's the point I'm trying to make: if there is a drop into Q4, how do you navigate that? Because I've seen that happen so many times, where there is a drop, but then people don't actually take advantage of it because they're so convinced it's going to go lower
08:392018, I was buying Bitcoin at $6,000, and then when it dropped, I just bought more
08:46But I'm sure there were people who weren't buying at all, watched it drop, still didn't buy, and then when it went up to $14K, wished they had bought it and wished they had bought it at $6K
08:54But when you're living through the moment, it feels really hard
08:59You know, it feels really hard
09:01So, as we approach Q4, I think it makes sense to try to think about what your plan is going to be because a lot of the things with investing, I find, are the most challenging just not having a plan
09:15And you know, I've talked to people who try to navigate other markets as well
09:20And what I have found, like, reduces stress the most, is just kind of..
09:25Having a plan and sticking to it no matter what
09:27And then, like, living your life, right? Like, enjoying life because we only have a small amount of time in this world, and we want to enjoy it
09:35We don't want to waste it watching a chart
09:39So that's the argument I would make: to have a plan
09:42And a lot of times, just having a plan can actually help reduce the anxiety about what's happening
09:49Um, and I found that works for me
09:52Uh, I do, I mean, obviously, I have had a little bit of anxiety, you know, with this move here, just because I wasn't fully anticipating it, and really because, you know, I didn't get as much as I would have liked at the lows
10:08Um, admittedly, but at the same time, I mean, I hope people recognize that I, I'm just
10:16Trying to be honest about, you know, my own path here and what I'm doing
10:17I mean, I don't really have to share all this information, but I'm hoping that by watching me go through this, it can be helpful to someone else who might be going through it or might experience something similar in the future if they're in an asset that's behaving in a very different way than what makes sense to them
10:33So, think about where Bitcoin is now, and I would try to come up with a plan for Q4 and how you want to navigate it
10:42And if there is a drop, how do you navigate that? And if there's not, what do you do there? Usually, right, when you get a move above the 50-week moving average, if you go back and look at some of the examples we've had..
10:56In 2019, when we got above it, within about two weeks, we were about 40% above it
11:02And if you look at 2023, when we got above the 50-week moving average right here, within about two weeks, we were about 24% above it
11:12So far this time above the 50-week moving average, we've gone about 10% or so
11:20We have not extended nearly as far as we normally do after getting through it, and perhaps there's a reason for that
11:28I'm not saying it's not technically similar to 2019 and 2023, but it could be due to the fact that it's happening in the midterm year
11:36That might be the reason why it's not giving you as big a gain
11:38Perhaps it's because the long end of the old curve is going up, and people are worried about what's going on in the Middle East
11:44Perhaps these are all just narratives that don't really matter
11:45Who knows? But as much as I want to feel more confident about what’s coming in Q4, Bitcoin is still sitting at about—how much would it have to drop to get back to the May high, at least at the time of this video? Not even 1%
12:02I don't know what’s going to happen in the short term; I couldn’t tell you
12:09I would say that if it drops back below the May high, then I think that would be considered bearish
12:18I mean, some people might just say it's a bullish retest, like sweeping it and then continuing, maybe back testing the 50-week moving average
12:26But a lot of times when Bitcoin breaks through..
12:28The 50-week moving average, it's not really back testing it, right? Like in 2019 and 2023, we never really back-tested it until many, many months later, right? I mean, we got through it in May of 2019
12:41We didn't test the 50-week until November of that same year
12:43And in 2023, we got through the 50-week in March
12:49We didn't test the 50-week until August of 2024
12:51So, you're talking about a year and a half later
12:55The only time that we tested it shortly after getting back above it was in 2020, when we got above it in January, and then we tested it again in early March
13:04So, what does that mean? It means, in my opinion, that if Bitcoin were to test the 50-week, that would probably be more of a bearish signal than a bullish one, because it would be..
13:11It would be acceptance back below the May high
13:18Um, but it would also be something that doesn't normally happen when we are truly back in a bull market
13:24So, as long as Bitcoin continues to extend here and proves the bears wrong, then those are again more points in favor of the bulls
13:33And the burden of proof just simply remains with the bears
13:39And again, as I said at the beginning of the video, I'll say it at the end, too
13:48This is coming from someone who did certainly lean bearish, right? I mean, I said I think there's a 65% chance that the low is not in back in, you know, back over here in August
14:00So, when we break a prior high like, you know, I, I clearly have to humble myself and, and, you know, go out and see what I'm
14:11Missing
14:22See what other views are, try to figure out what it is that the market is doing, and you know, sometimes taking a break can even be worthwhile, right? Like just taking a break from it and coming up with the strategy on how I'm going to navigate it, right? Sure, but not thinking too hard about it
14:33And you know, I could spend all day talking about what might or might not happen
14:39The reality is, I clearly don't know in the short term, because if I didn't know what was going to break the May high, how can I claim to know what's going to happen next? So that's kind of where I am right now
14:50And I think it's more about, rather than trying to predict in the short term what's going to happen, trying to..
14:56Come up with a plan that you can have in Q4 to navigate no matter what happens, right? So, you like to pencil down, all right, if it does this, I'm going to do that
15:07And if it does that, I'm going to do this
15:08And hopefully that gives, you know, hopefully that reduces anxiety and helps people to navigate the market
15:14And I know this isn't the typical video that I make, but I just wanted to put something out because we did get the move above the May high
15:21We also have a monthly close coming up as well, so I'm sure that will be something worth watching
15:27The monthly close is coming up here in just a few days
15:31And you know, we're going into Q4
15:35Q4, historically for Bitcoin, in midterm years, hasn't been the best
15:37You know, these three, these uh, three green candles here have certainly spiced up the conversation going into Q4, because what's interesting is that even if you did get a drop, let's say you got the FTX drop, right? If you got the FTX drop, where Bitcoin dropped, you know, like 26% into a crisis or something, 26% from the high is not even a new low, right? You know, you would just be going back and kind of testing where we already were, like around in the low 60s
16:17That wouldn't even get you below 60 if you were to have a collapse like FTX
16:20So again, I think it makes sense to be a little bit less deterministic and to, you know, to kind of take a step back and see what other theories are, maybe go to some other channels
16:34And see what they're saying
16:37I'm sure most people already do that anyway, but I would encourage you to do that
16:40I think it makes a lot of sense to just see what other people are saying because you don't want to live in an echo chamber
16:45And by hearing what other people have to say, I think it can help you formulate your own opinions, right? Like, maybe I didn't see that
16:53That makes sense
16:55Maybe I should consider it that way
16:56But anyway, those are my views, or maybe lack thereof
16:58But that's what I wanted to say
17:02Thank you guys for tuning in, and I will see you next time
17:05Bye.
